EOI: Snowy Mountains ride (19-22 Nov 2019)

Expressions of Interest

Are you interested in spending few days riding around the Snowy Mountains prior to this year’s Rally at Bethanga?

If yes, please let us know! E-mail the Club at:

Bethanga, the site of the SR500 Club’s Annual Rally, is right on the doorstep of some of the best motorcycle riding roads in Australia – the beautiful Snowy Mountains.

If you didn’t ride the Snowy Mountains with us in Nov 2017, do yourself a favour and come along with like-minded riders for a couple of days and experience the wonderful scenery and quiet, sealed roads that cater for all riding styles and abilities.

The plan will be to ride through the Snowy Mountains for a couple of days during the week prior to the Rally and then meander back to Bethanga on the Friday (22 Nov) to join the regular Rally festivities.

Khancoban, NSW (150 km East of Bethanga via the river road), will be the base from which the daily rides will start and finish on the Wednesday and Thursday. Each ride will cover approx. 320 km per day. The ride back to Bethanga will be on the Murray Valley Hwy and the Granya Gap. Total distance of the ride will be just over 900 km, if you ride each day.

Note: Some of the routes are through remote areas, so it’s very important that your bike, and especially its tyres, are in good condition!

Daily plans will be totally fluid, so riders can join or leave it as they wish. You can do the full ride, just one day, or even half a day – it’s up to you.

As a guide, attendees on the 2017 ride set up their tents in Bethanga on the Tuesday prior to the Rally and then travelled that afternoon to Khancoban where they stayed Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights. The rides out of Khancoban departed at 9:00am each day from the service station, and returned around 3:00pm, or so.

There are plenty of accommodation options in Khancoban, ranging from inexpensive camping and cabins, self-contained motel rooms at the local pub, to very nice multi-room cabins which are perfect for a small group of 3 or 4 riders (or couples) to share with cooking facilities/BBQs, etc. Contact details for these options are given below for your info.

Booking accommodation early is recommended, as at that time of year, the region is extremely popular with motorcyclists, campers, fishermen, etc.

Breakfast is available at several cafés in town, and dinner at the hotel or Country Club.

The Snowy Mountains ride is open to all SR500 Club members, their partners and any non-members or mates you may wish to invite.

EOI: Tasmania 2020 (19-29 Mar 2020)

Expressions of Interest

Are you interested in spending 10 days or so riding around Tasmania in March 2020?

If yes, please let us know! E-mail the Club at:

Following on from the Club’s successful trips to Tasmania in March 2016 and 2018, we are proposing a return to the Apple Isle in March 2020.

Tasmania offers many tourist attractions, fabulous motorcycling roads, beautiful scenery, and good weather in March, usually!

We propose departing Melbourne on the evening of Thursday, 19 March 2020 on the Spirit of Tasmania, and returning on the Spirit’s evening sailing on Saturday, 28 March 2020.

Those interested in attending may wish to depart and/or return earlier or later, and this is totally at your discretion.

There is no specific itinerary at this stage. If there is sufficient interest in the trip, then an itinerary will be drawn up closer to the time.

Note: The Club does not do group bookings for ferry or accommodation. It will be each attendee’s responsibility to book their own fares and accommodation.

EOI: Simpson Desert Crossing (Aug 2020)

Expressions of Interest

Club member, David Baker, is planning a Simpson Desert crossing in 2020.

David is a 62 year old, experienced rider, and is preparing a DR650 for the trip.

Timing is flexible, but will most likely be from August onwards.

There is the possibility of having a 4WD support vehicle tag along, but this is not guaranteed, so please prepare to be self-sufficient.

If you are interested, David can be contacted via email at
