It is the beginning of November, and normally, at this time of year, preparations are well underway for our annual Rally at Bethanga.
But, unfortunately, 2020 is no normal year.
Many restrictions remain in place in Victoria, which directly affect us as a club. These include:
- Club members who live in metropolitan Melbourne cannot travel more than 25 km from home
- For interstate members, there are border restrictions for travel in to, and out of, Victoria
- There is a limit to the number of people allowed to meet together outside (10 people max.)
For these reasons, and after discussion at last week’s monthly Zoom meeting, we have come to the difficult conclusion that we cannot go ahead with the Rally this year.
We are very sorry to disappoint all our members who regularly attend the Rally each year. This is a decision that has not been taken lightly.
In lieu of the Rally, we encourage members in each State and Territory to get together (subject to local restrictions) and organise a small group ride amongst themselves on Sunday 22 November. Or just go for a ride by yourself – that’s fine too!
On the day, please take a photo of you, your bike, and proof of the date (e.g. holding a newspaper masthead) and email it to us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will publish your photo on the website, or post the photo yourself on our Facebook group at www.facebook.com/groups/247827052431419
And as an incentive, everyone who submits a photo will be sent a special 2020 Club ‘Rally’ badge!
